Post Myelogram Instructions
Suggested Post Myelogram Instructions
- Elevate head 28° 6-12 hours after myelogram.
- 2nd day – Lay flat with bathroom privileges only.
- 3rd day – increase activity. If headache persists, then remain on flat bed rest.
- If positional headache persists, then consult radiologist. May offer patient a blood patch at this time.
- If patient is vomiting and has headache, send patient to ER to be seen by radiologist for possible IV therapy, CBC, diff and possible blood patch.
Post Myelogram Instructions For Patients
- After myelogram, elevate head 28° for 6-12 hours.
- Increase your fluids to help move the dye out of your system.
- On the second day, lay flat in bed, getting up for the bathroom only.
- On the third day, you may be out of bed. If you develop a headache after being out of bed, return to bed and lay flat.
- If a headache persists, for 2 to 3 days, contact the radiologist at the hospital.
- If vomiting and unable to keep any liquids down, contact the radiologist at the hospital.
